The Steele family had a great trip to Wisconsin Dells last week. I had started my first week of school on Wednesday and left early at 2pm, so we could get on the road. I didn't just skip out of the first days of school for a trip. My cousin Gabe was getting married in Madison on Saturday, so we turned this into a little mini vacation. I was an usher and reader at the wedding, and it's Gabe, so I was definitely not missing it. :-) My mom and dad joined us on the trip and were a big help! They were at our house with the kids all day Wednesday and kept them awake, so they would sleep the first stretch of the trip. We got the kids in the car and both of them were asleep before we were out of the driveway.

We spent the first night in Tomah, WI and got into the hotel room by around 11:30pm. Macky and Nolan had been sleeping for a while before then, so neither of them wanted to go to bed once we got to the room. We finally got them to bed around 12:45 and then they were up by 7. We took off for Wisconsin Dells and our first stop was at the Tanger outlet mall. Mackenzie made her first build a bear. It was so fun. She chose a pink bear and put the little heart inside. She chose some clothes and named her Lucy Emma Steele (Lucy is a doll on her favorite show Little Bear and Emma is the name of one of Macky's friends). We had lunch at the best place in the Dells, Moosejaw. They have amazing quesadillas and basically everything we've tried we've loved! We ate their twice on our honeymoon and I would have eaten her every day of this trip too!
The first night we ate at Kahunaville, a restaurant within the Kalahari resort area. They have fun events during dinner like dancing and hula hoop contests. Mackenzie and Nolan loved the action.
Nolan was a happy little guy throughout the trip. He ended up getting a fever on the 2nd night. It was as high as 102 before we gave him some medicine. I ended up with strep once I got home, but I am hoping that his fever was because he was miserable trying to push his 1st little tooth through. (which came through finally today!!! 3 months earlier than his big sister)
Kalahari has an indoor theme park. Eric and I bought a $20 wristband and with that we had unlimited access to the theme park attractions for our entire stay. They had rock walls, an elevated ropes course, mini golf, laser tag, ferris wheel, and go carts. We tried everything but laser tag. We did most of it during a nap time when Grandma and Grandpa relaxed in the room when the kids were napping. Mackenzie loved the ferris wheel and we brought Nolan along for a few rides, too.
We had a blast at the water parks within the resort. We didn't even go anywhere else in wisconsin dells. These pictures are from the indoor park. The water was was so warm and it wasn't deep, so Mackenzie could wander around safely. It was so great. I highly recommend it for families with young children. Nolan had a fun time splashing in the shallow water, too. Eric tried the Wave Rider and did pretty well. He stayed on there longer than he thought he would.
This was the view from our hotel room. We tried all the slides and swam in some of the outdoor pools. To the left of the slides, there are 3 bigger swimming pools. One section is for kids, another is a basketball/swimming pool and the final one has an area for lap swimming and also a part with benches that go around the whole edge of the pool. We had been thinking about going back to Kalahari for a long time and thought that there was no way it was going to be as good as we remembered, but it was! We are already ready to plan our next trip there, hopefully we'll be able to stay longer :-)
